Plant Sources

I have included this section as one of the main questions I get asked is where to get particular plants. Getting good plant material and good advice is really important when you try something new. For example in the UK and the US there are a lot of dried Cyclamen corms for sale, coming mainly from Holland. Often they don't grow. So people are disappointed, give up, and the genus gets the reputation for being "difficult".

Plant Sources (UK)

This will be a very small list of the individuals who have consistently supplied high quality plants to me over the past decade. I don't get anything back from any of them, nor would I want to. They are here because I like them.

Paul Christian- Rare Bulbs, has a huge bulb website. Vast range of bulbs, hardy and tender. Good for Cyclamen, Paul is also an expert of Trillium. Many of my Fritillaria, Pleiones came from him. Plants are true to name and healthy. Online catalogue with cultivation notes and lots of pictures. He does export too.

Ian Butterfield - Butterfields Pleiones, holder of the UK National Collection of Pleiones. Ian Butterfield's hybridises and cultivates Pleiones. Many are for sale at reasonable prices. The address is; Butterfield's Pleiones, Harvest Hill, Bourne End, Buckinghamshire, SL8 5JJ, UK. Ian will export with CITES certificates.

Ann Earnshaw, Mendle Nursery, great for choice alpines, they also have an excellent selection of some of the best South American Oxalis and hybrids.

Peter Moore, Tilebarn Nursery, specialises in Cyclamen species. Peter has a huge selection and an active breeding programme. If you think you have every type of Cyclamen, think again, Peter always has something whether you are a beginner or a real expert.

Jim & Jenny Archibald, bulb and alpine seed specialists. Jim and Jenny are seed collectors who specialize in wild collected seed from around the world. Particularly strong on Cyclamen and Fritillaria, Helleborus, Calochortus and many other genera. Now have a website  http://www.jjaseeds.com/ (and yes, they are the Archibalds of Dionysia archibaldii fame!)

Plant Sources (International)

This list includes some of the suppliers I know can offer export. I have also added a number of other suppliers mainly from the US. Obviously these are not people I have done with business with so I cannot offer the same personal recommendation I have for the UK suppliers. If you have any problems with these suppliers please let me know.

David Fischer "I have been selling species cyclamen plants for six years now, almost entirely by mail order, in the US only. I issue a new price list in late December which contains 30 or more species, varieties and forms. This is a very small one person operation, so plants are generally available in limited quantities and the rarer items sell out quite quickly. Many of the cyclamen are not available elsewhere in the US, to the best of my knowledge. Anyone wanting a price list should send $1 (three years of lists) to: David Fischer, PO Box 96 Wiscasset, ME 04578

Roger Barlow, Beaver Creek Greenhouses "We grow a variety of Cyclamen plus alpines & ship our plants to the US & Canada. We offer seed as well & will ship seed anywhere. No paper catalogs anymore as all business is done via email or over the web now." website: www.rockgardenplants.com

Diana Nicholls "We ship internationally as well as US." Nicholls Gardens MailOrder Plant Nursery 4724 Angus Drive, Gainesville, Va 20155-1217" HTTP://www.nichollsgardens.com

John Lonsdale "I list plants every year and will probably list seed next year also.
